The 21st New Zealand Molecular Ecology Conference will be held from November 30th to December 2nd at Camp Rangi Woods in the Pohangina Valley in the Manawatū.
Early bird registration (closing October 23rd) is $120 for unwaged and students and $200 for all others. Massey University staff and students can register through this link , everyone else can use the credit card form here.
Venue and travel
Registration includes accommodation at Camp Rangi Woods on the nights of Friday, November 30th and Saturday, December 1st and meals from supper on Friday until lunch on Sunday. Camp Rangi Woods is part of the Tōtara Reserve Regional Park, giving attendees the chance to enjoy short walks, longer tramping tracks and a number of swimming holes. The venue is approximately 40 minutes drive from Palmerston North, and 2.5 hours from Wellington.
Abstract Submission
For those wishing to present a talk or poster, abstracts are due by November 1st. To aid in producing an abstract book, please use this Word document as a template abstract, preserving the styles in the file. Rename the file to SURNAME.docx and submit your abstract by email to David Winter (d.winter@massey.ac.nz) with "NZ MolEcol Abstract" in the subject line. Note these abstracts will be made available on this website after the meeting.
Preconference workshop
On Friday we also invite you to participate in the first ‘Ira Moana Workshop and Datathon’ and to become part of the Ira Moana Network!
The ‘Ira Moana – Genes of the Sea – Network and Database’ is an MBIE funded initiative aiming to form an inclusive and collaborative network of NZ molecular ecologists to deliver a searchable metadatabase for our genetic data (from both old and next-generation sequencing techniques, for terrestrial and marine critters, as well as environmental samples). The metadatabase will ensure the kaitiakitanga of our data, linking sequences with sample information – such as location, habitat, and date of sampling events – creating opportunities for data synthesis, data re-use, and to inform our future research directions.
During this Workshop and Datathon attendees will be introduced to the Network goals, familiarised with the metadata format, and online data upload/download tools. There will be the opportunity for attendees to upload their own data and for the group to brainstorm and initiate collaborative research activities using the data resource.
Registration for this workshop is free and lunch will be provided. Venue: Massey University, Manawatu Campus (Geography Building, GLB2.05). Time: 10am – 4:30pm. Questions: contact Libby Liggins, L.Liggins@massey.ac.nz
Other questions
If you have questions about the meeting please don't hesitate to get in contact with David Winter (d.winter@massey.ac.nz)
